Why do you have the right to assume that any mechanical device made for public convenience is absolutely safe under any and all circumstances. I would like to see you develop anything that a lot of people are going to use and apply the same standard. People have to use their head and not just take anything for granted.
every time I ride an escalator I think of the old cartoon showing the guy screaming as he got sucked into the mechanism at the top of the stairs.
“you pays your money and you takes your chances”
anybody with common sense could look at an escalator and tell it could eat you up. just suck it up, get on, and hope for the best. if you don’t want the risk, take the elevator. they are safest travel in the world, according to the statistics.
exactly — what happen to common sense? are we all that stupid? can we get dressed w/o having to find that i put the wrong leg in the side of the pants? do we all need instructions for everything we do? if i can’t walk straight, do i now sue mom and dad? afterall, where was the instruction? if i can’t add 1+1, do i sue mom, dad, or school? if i wear clothes that are inappropriate, then wear is it my right to sue the make of cloth? it fanthoms me to think that man is so greedy, including the lawyers that jump on this – afterall, they get majority of the $$.
so, what?! if not mom, where’s the dad? afterall, it was a family event! if the kid ran out into the street and got hit by a car, they would find the parent outside responsible. you forget what this society is up to. parents are responsible!
So now the mom is responcible for fixing an escolator?
Thats an interesing world you are living in there wudchuck.
And your analogy of running into the street is wrong. If my kid ran into the street because of a faulty “walk” sign then the analogy would make more sense, but you would still be wrong.
Whoa……Moma D, are you kidding me? Yes, moms (and dads) are SUPPOSED to be there for their kids….we know that the kids can’t be responsible if they are that little…I’m wondering how proactive this mother is in watching her yongster ALL the time. Accidents can happen, that’s why they are called “accidents” and not “on purposes”. Besides, they aren’t suing the manufatcurer of the escalator, they are suing the shoe maker.
Why can’t anyone take responsibility for themselves?
Like someone else on this board said…if you can’t ride an escalator safely, then walk the few extra feet and take the elevator, lazies!
Does anyone know what the accident really was? I have heard before that the danger with crocs is the maerial they are made out of. The plastic tends to grip really well….this means if the little kids toes are right next to the step, when it starts to retract at the top the shoes sticks and goes with it. Was that the case with this boy?

Danny apparently you dont understand how it works in the US.
If I enter the mall, I expect the roof not to cave in, I expect not to get sucked up by a trick escalator.
Its not “Use at Your Own risk”
It just doesn’t work that way, and im glad it doesn’t, otherwise you would see a lot of escalators that didn’t work very well.
If the escalator company is on the hook for me losing a foot, then overall, it provides an incentive to make sure they are safe.
Same goes for crocks for that matter.

This was a child we are talking about. Personal responsibility isnt their strong suit.
Moms cant do everything – Its hard enough without having to babysit an escalator.

Frankly I’m surprised PETA hasn’t chimed in yet… I mean, after all, using an animal name on a mass produced product is extremely unethical.
Hmmm, I wonder what they think of horseshoes?
