A Syracuse, New York contractor has admitted in federal court that it illegally removed and disposed of material containing asbestos in several buildings for more than a decade.
AAPEX Environmental Services Inc. of Liverpool and 50-year-old John Leathly of Manilus also pleaded guilty to mail fraud on Tuesday.
AAPEX, which admitted to defrauding an insurance company by failing to disclose its asbestos activities to obtain lower insurance rates, agreed to a pay a $166,700 fine as part of a plea deal. The company also agreed to never engage in asbestos-related work again.
