Dear A Pride: The point here is that the plaintiff is a bigot. She’s obviously a well-compensated person at $250,000 a year. She said is wasn’t about money and she did it for a “higher cause”. Get real. Somebody mentioned injunctive relief. Taking action to correct behavior is one thing. Awarding millions is something quite different. How much real “suffering” can an aggressive female claim over being called a you know what? It’s not like MSG or Thomas are paying anything out of their own pockets. Their insurance carriers are. The plaintiff need to put her newly found money where her mouth is. Donate it to help womens causes. Of course we both know that will never happen.

An what’s with the remark about suing the Klan? Do you see anyone suing the NAACP, or Sharpton? And by the way, even if you called whites by some offensive name, they wouldn’t go running to the courts looking to make a quick buck. Some people love to milk the system.

Now you know we were all on our best behaviour when we were hired, just like we drove fantastically when we got our licenses. Then things changed. You also know you just can’t fire someone off hand in spite of what the employee handbook says about employment at will. Just doesn’t work that way.

The reality is sports organizations are in a very competitive busines to win and make money……..not make nice with prima donna employees………male or female. Anyone who wants to play in the big leagues takes what comes with the turf. Otherwise, they should stay on the porch or chase their ideals in a less threatening environment. Some leopards can’t change their spots. Thomas may be one of them. Society can’t make laws to address the 2% of the population who can’t play nice. I’d like to see the playing field leveled by having a law that prevents women from dressing and provocatively. Then the men could blame their bad behavior on entrapment.

    Melissa,

I will be the first one to admit that if I sued for harassment, the first place I would be is at Macy’s. That’s on her if she will or won’t donate to women’s causes. I bet alot of women that win these types of lawsuits don’t. That’s just human nature – self preservation or whatever. There are alot of us in the insurance arena or in corporate American period that do not volunteer to help low income, battered and abused women. That does not make us any worse than the next person but we do regard these people with compassion (hopefully).

For the guys that may want to sue women for dressing provocatively – good luck with that one. Some people do not have good home training – male or female. Some people like attention because they’re not getting it at home – I work with plenty of women who unfornately practise this. That’s why I sometime hate casual Friday – it’s not supposed to be wear your best “club clothes day”. Like ZZ Top said something to this effect, “Girls go crazy for a sharp dressed man.” I personally LOVE a man in a well cut suit – so are all men going to go with shirt and tie so as not to turn me on? I think not. I appreciate the eye candy. My husband’s Native American. I really wish he would wear his Red Earth gear all the time but that would turn too many people on. Oh well…

In regards to the statement about suing the Klan – this is just an example. I heard today that Imus not only got his $20 million settlement but will probably be on air by next year. You can’t change everyone and apparently none of his comments offend everyone except Blacks women (though there should have been more women’s groups that spoke out, I felt the team was left to fend for itself). No amount of money will change people’s hearts be they racist, sexist, etc. Everyone is guilty of at one time or another believing certaim stereotypes and painting a whole race for it. Hopefully the more you work around other races the more you’ll see some things are true and others are embellished or have no basis in truth at all.

For me personally I am not a member of any women’s organization including my own sorority. I am ME, PHI, ME and I fight my own battles. I don’t expect the NAACP, National Council of Negro Women or even the EEOC to fight my battles and therefore I don’t have to give any money to them after a big fat lawsuit. If I need to sue, I will hire a great attorney regardless of race or sex believe it or not. I can help in other ways which I have for low-income women and their kids. Face to face giving is more important than giving to an organization – I know where my money is going when I give it to the person in need.

No, whites may not sue for being called a racial epithet but as in the case of Bakke vs (I can’t remember – it was before my time), this case dealt with reverse discrimation. You can say Blacks are more sensitive than most people but I dare say so are alot of minorities and who do people care so much about Sharpton? I have been accused to a certain extent of race-baiting and so has this man. Like he said, if people say something about other races then it’s a hate crime but say something about Blacks, it’s free speech. It’s no longer the 60s and it’s no longer open season on attacking people of color. There may not be signs out but there are code words and a system where the playing field is not equal for everyone.

Back to old girl, she’ll be laughing all the way to the bank while we’re here debating.

The difference between calling whites “rednecks” & using the “N” word is that redneck slur of a segment of caucasions, where the “N” word is a slur for an entire race.

The truth of the matter is that I don’t know of a comparable word for whites that they use amongst themselves compared to use of the “N” word within the hip/hop-rap generation of African Americans.

You don’t hear “Hey Redneck, what’s up?”, although the hip/hop-rap generation of whites have been heard to call each other “Homie”.

    To John R.

“Blacks enjoy using colorful language without any concern in their routine chat and in their music. ”

I am black and I do not enjoy using colorful language in my routine chat. By your definition that makes me racist since it is inconsistent with your “factually accurate” statement.

Wow!! This is news to me. I didn’t know that I was an individual and that my conduct could be grouped with I. Thomas and all these other blacks that you so eloquently describe.

By your logic all white men are lying (R. Nixon) fornicaters (B. Clinton) and white women are incapable of raising their children (B. Spears). That sounds pretty ignorant doesn’t it? Well that’s about how informed your post seems too.

I hope that you are not an underwriter (or an agent with underwriting authority), I hope you do not make these broad assumptions when determining whether individuals are eligible for insurance coverage …..

Whoa!!! Stop the presses!!! African pride is a woman?!?!?! Dang, I had you figured out to be a young black dude with a big chip on his shoulder! Not a black woman with a big johnson between her legs. Sorry, too much testosterone in your posts to think otherwise.

Wow AL, I think this is the first time I have ever agreed with a post of yours and your post was excellent.

To the whiner “seen it all”. Get a thicker skin, grow up or stay at home and play house with the kids. You are not special because you are a woman in the business place so get over it.
