Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. has filed criminal charges in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City against two former Maryland Insurance Administration agent enforcement officers for doctoring computer files to suggest they were licensed as producers when they were not.
Charges were filed against William E. Unkle and Joseph E. Wolfe. Unkle was charged with unauthorized access to computers. Wolfe was charged with conspiracy to gain unauthorized access to computers.
Curran alleges that while both individuals were employed by the MIA, Unkle gained unauthorized access to the MIA’s licensing system and caused the system to reflect that both Wolfe and Unkle had insurance producer licenses when in fact they did not.
MIA officials subsequently learned of their actions, revoked those licenses and referred the matter to the attorney general.
If convicted, Both Unkle and Wolfe could face up to three years in prison. No trial date has been set.
