Oxford, Mississippi City Hall Suffers $20K in Flood Damage

Officials in Oxford, Mississippi are cleaning up city hall after vandals plugged up a sink and left water running that flooded the building.

Damage was estimated at $20,000. The incident occurred Wednesday night in an upstairs bathroom.

Billy Lamb, the city’s superintendent of buildings and grounds, says crews are removing carpet, drywall, subflooring and ceiling tile in the damaged area, which included all three floors of City Hall.

City Clerk Lisa Carwyle says no records or electronics were damaged, but the repairs had interfered somewhat with normal work.

Police Chief Mike Martin says investigators have received no leads so far in the crime, despite a $500 reward offered through CrimeStoppers.

Mayor Pat Patterson has promised that the city will prosecute suspects.
