Tennessee Lottery Sues 2 Companies over Software Error
Tennessee lottery officials are suing two companies they believe are responsible for a software error that resulted in the sale of about $2 million worth of unwinnable tickets last year.
The Tennessee Education Lottery Corp. filed the lawsuit earlier this month against Smartplay International Inc. and Gaming Laboratories International Inc., the technology provider and system reviewer allegedly responsible for the programming glitch.
The error caused no duplicate digits to appear in winning Cash 3 and Cash 4 numbers between July 28 and Aug. 20. Gamblers who picked duplicate digits could not win.
Aubrey B. Harwell Jr., one of the attorneys representing the lottery, said lottery officials are seeking damages resulting from the software error.
