Wyoming Man Accused of Setting Fire to Late Mom’s Trailer

Insurance fraud is the suspected motive in the case of a Cheyenne, Wyo., man accused of setting fire to his late mother’s trailer home.

Thirty-five-year-old Nicholas M. Montee is charged with second-degree arson. Prosecutors say he set fire to his mother’s Burns mobile home in February to collect insurance money.

Montee is being held in Laramie County Jail on a $3,000 bond.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported that Montee told officers that his mother was a hoarder who died last year. Montee was going through probate to obtain the home.

According to court documents, Montee bought a homeowners policy on the trailer Jan. 26 and filed a claim for the fire Feb. 14, a day after the trailer burned. No one was hurt in the fire.
