Wyoming Senate Committee Kills Workplace Guns Bill

A Wyoming legislative committee has killed a bill that would have barred employers in the state from prohibiting their workers from keeping guns in their vehicles at the workplace.

The Senate Transportation Committee voted 5-0 on to defeat the workplace gun bill. It already had cleared the House.

Republican Senator Bill Landen of Casper was among those who voted against the bill. He says the bill presented a difficult issue because it pitted employees’ right to carry guns against the employers’ right to control their workplace property. Several industry lobbyists testified against the bill at the committee hearing.

Landen said that although he’s a strong supporter of gun rights, he voted against the bill out of concern that it would create more problems than it attempted to solve.
