I have to agree with the tour boat operators that the fine is excessive and possibly damaging to tourism. It’s not like this was an intentional act and it sounds like the boat company has been a solid citizen. Now, just because some coral (that nobody sees or cares about other than some environmentalists who can’t get a real job) is damaged, slam the business man? This is absurd. If the lousey coral is that delicate maybe it wasn’t meant to survive in modern times. I have a real problem with a small group of people who think all things must be preserved forever. It’s a fact, some things become extinct. Coral shouldn’t rank too high on anybody’s list of priorities. Hawaii doesn’t rely on fishing as an industry and exactly how many people’s ability to scuba dive and see colorful fish have been affected. I’d bet none.

Do you understand bill what coral reefs provide both for humans and as a natural resource? It sound like you dont. Apart from providing services such as coastal protection, stocks of fish, education and tourism they are estimated to be worth $30bn annually.

Do you understand why that tour boat is there in the first place? coral reefs!!! therefore they are destroying what they rely on!

So if yo think it is right for the destruction of reefs to continue i guess that is an insight into the little intellect you possess. good luck
