I agree that Allstate should have won this case. I am surprised the insured did not get a check for the policy limits on the contents and then try to armwrestle for more money. I am also shocked they did not sue the agent for underinsuring the house. How can you recommend $315,000 in coverage for a 3,000 square foot home in California when the estimated replacement cost was over $870,000?
I’d love to see more reports like this one to give us an idea of what is being tried, in what locale and with what success. Most trial court cases are not going to be reported. Thank you.
Nice to see the company win one on its merits!
It’s amazing! The adjuster was there, took photos and took a detailed inventory, and THEN the insured’s got inventive with the inventory. What do they think we are, stupid?
I’m a Ventura County guy so this story warms the cockles of my (admittedly) anthracite heart. Not familiar w/ MacGregor & Berthels but hooray for them and for Allstate for trying this one.

For once I could follow the jist of the article as enough facts were presented. Mcgregor & Berthel appears to be a crack firm.

We need more of these types of articles!! Helps soften the cynacism (just a bit)! And James, yes, they do think we’re stupid.
Any punishment for filing a fraud claim on contents?
Chalk one up for the big guys! It would be interesting to see what Allstate does in this case. Can’t the courts do something?
Can anyone make any sense if the re:re:re:re: posting ?
