Christina – you are a total nutter and I love it. Thanks, as your posts make me laugh, almost bringing tears to my ears. You’re hilarious. Utopia, lastbat and Jason – thanks for brining common sense to this thread. These verdicts are out of control and hopeuflly Walgreens will appeal and these atrocious verdicts will be overturned. So typical of the pltf to dig into the deep pockets of Companies for their own misfortunes.
It is sad that the doctor prescribed two medications that should not be taken together and ever sadder that Walgreens did not notice…my pharmacy has always stopped me with questions and even strongly asked that they could contact the doctor for me. I am not an advocate of doing so all the time but at least someone has been questioning these things for me. It helps to make a more informed decision….having said that, I doubt making Walgreens the payee is going to help…..I don’t know about you but I am WELL aware of what Methadone is, what it can do etc. If I were getting it, I would really be concerned about the dosage and interactions but I am the kind of consumer who is wary about things like this. Too bad the coach wasn’t; he must have been in severe pain; and if I remember my mother’s cancer, the relief of pain was the most important concern for her, the coach too probably trusted too much….
Well said SFOinsurance lady. this is one subject that I don’t want to have an opinion on but I can assure you it wouldn’t happen to me, or so I’d like to think. I am just too curious when it comes to my healthcare…..
Maybe so, & maybe he took into consideration the pain he was to endure for the rest of his life & decided he might be worth more money to his family dead than alive, researched the matter & took his own life… but we won’t know what his real intentions were in any case, & I do not agree this is a fair settlement by any means!!!!
I don’t know, but in defense of the patient, he may have been too “out of it” to use energy questioning his physician. Unfortunately, this is the problem with many senior patients who die every year from drug overdoses. They no longer have the capability to watch out for themselves and there is no one close enough in their life to watch out for them. The man clearly was in a lot of pain – enough that they considered it may have been suicide.
Does anyone know what the exact cause of his death was? Was it OD or drug-drug interaction? It seems to me that noone is really sure of the true reason behind the patients demise. Did he OD or was it a drug interaction; OD more likly not a drug interaction. If it was a drug interaction please enlighten me how that can cause someone’s death, MOA of these drugs and how he supposedly died from a drug interaction does not make any sense. This is the type of information public needs before a witch hunt starts.
I use to work for Walgreens and I liked the company. I believe it is the patients fault and the doctors fault. If you are taking the medication correctly there is now way you can die of an interaction. I would put money on it that the guy overdosed. I won’t say names but you guys think taking methadone and tramadol is bad? that’s nothing. Try seeing patients who oxycontin, Lortab, methadone, percocet, and other pain medications all in the same month and at the same time. People need to be in the Pharmacists shoes sometimes and realize it’s not always our fault. What about the family doctor who was prescribing this? Why didn’t he tell him or just not prescribe it to him? Walgreens was wrongfully sued. I hate people who try to get a quick dollar
Yes it is good odds. Of course if it was someone I loved I would be devestated but be lucky Walgreens even reports that. Do you know why you don’t hear about CVS pharmacy in the news? Because they don’t have a systme yet to report misfills they’ve had. So how about everyone that hates Walgreens start going to CVS and see how much better off you are. Good luck
