If the insurance companies are advertising to vote a big NO on this measure, then why? It\’s not for the benefit of us premium payers, its to line their already gold lined pockets! When insurance agents are voting YES with good reason, read between the lines and get to the motives – BIG MONEY! This measure would set a precedent, and that\’s what they are afraid of!

Why not rate a persons\’s insurance rates on their driving record? Isn\’t that most logical? Seems to me that at one time or another, everyone\’s credit gets messed up for one reason or another. My goodness, with all the credit card debt and constant promotions to acquire credit, I think they see a windfall coming and are planning for it. Do they ever cut us a break? One of my biggest pet peeves is my car gets older, the value goes down, but does my insurance? NEVER! Every year there are automatic increases on every type of insurance there is.

To Mr. Smarter then you: Your comment about those who can\’t read are ignorant is ridiculous! Seems to me that since you don\’t know how to spell or correctly use grammar makes you the ignorant person. Using a credit score to determine the cost of ones insurance premium is absurd! I am 42yo and have never had one accident, ticket or any violation. My ex-wife has screwed up my credit beyond belief. I also work very hard to provide for my family, so why should the big insurance company corporations have the right to take more of my hard earned money?

credit inquiries by ins co\’s for home and auto ins do not effect your credit score in Oregon…get your facts straight..
Personally I would prefer that ones driving record, type of car , age and occupation be the sole way to determine what premium you will pay

I have my facts correct. I said what I did because the last time I went shopping around for car insurance, I ended up with inquiries on my credit report. Not every insurance company posted an inquiry, but some of them did.

Lets kick people when they are already down on their luck. And we call ourselves christians. How some ones driving record could have anything to do with there credit,is the craziest thing I have every heard. How some politician can say something like this is embarrassing.

I know many of these \”good credit drivers\” drive like wrecking balls. I have good credit, and a flawless driving record. My rates are low. My driving record is something I have direct control over so it makes sense that my rates should be determined by my driving record. I don\’t always have direct control over my credit. I am careful, but if my identity is stolen, or wrongfully manipulated, my rates could increase without any change in my driving behavior whatsoever. This is wrong. Furthermore, credit inquiries on behalf of insurance companies can damage your credit. If you shop around, you get more inquiries resulting in higher rates. Given all the options, I would rather pay slightly higher rates based on my driving record alone, than pay double or triple the rate later because of some flaw that appears in my credit report. Ding me for the things I can control, not for the things I can\’t.

To Andrew…you\’re correct that ins inquiries (soft inquiries) do show up but ONLY on the consumers ( your ) copy of the credit report. These soft inquiries also show up from all the pre approved credit card offers we all get through the mail. The important fact is these soft hits DO NOT show up on any report a bank or insurance co uses to establish ones credit score. You may get as many quotes as you like to shop your personal ins. If you still disagree please call the Or Dept of Ins for further explanation 503 947 7983

I don\’t like insurance scoring as a rating tool but there are too many confused people who don\’t know what their talking about on this topic and the Nov ballot measure put upon us by Bill Sizemore

There are no comments about insurance companies having access to your credit report or score in the first place. When you apply for insurance, you are not requesting them to extend credit. Insurance is prepaid. Ask yourself why they get access to begin with. This is a start. NO company should have access to this information except to extend credit. Paying a higher insurance premium based on information they should not have access to is a financial loss the credit reporting agencies should be liable for accurate or not. This is profiling. Good credit equals better ability to pay premium.

I say yes to measure 42. I have a good driving record. My credit is a mess due primarily to serious illness of first my daughter then my husband then myself. All of this in under two years. I was injured in a car accident when I stopped for a elderly man crossing the road and the driver behind me had fallen asleep at the wheel. We are struggling just to get by. Should anything but my driving record be in concideration of my insurance rates I say NO. It is the right thing to do to vote yes on measure 42!
