Investigators with the California Department of Insurance (CDI) and the Glendale Police Department are asking for more victims to come forward after the arrest and conviction of Nahed Sabri El-Hawary on eight counts of grand theft.
El-Hawary, 35, aka Nina El-Hawary, was a licensed broker-agent of Golden Shield Insurance Services, Inc. in Glendale. She was arrested on Aug. 5 and booked into Los Angeles County Jail for grand theft of insurance premium.
El-Hawary reportedly pled guilty to charges that she collected premium payments from numerous unsuspecting customers and then failed to submit the money to insurance companies to secure the coverage. Her reported actions left many victims without insurance, some of whom were financially damaged as a result of uncovered vehicle accidents and theft.
After her plea on Aug. 20, El-Hawary was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay restitution to her victims. The amount of restitution will be determined according to the damages incurred by victims who come forward before her Sept. 21 restitution hearing.
