It isn’t like the trains are roaming the countryside, killing random people on the street. It isn’t even like these trains are having problems with gates and signals at the grade crossings not working. People are impatient and stupid, and the video shows that people go around the gates, ignoring the warnings because they got used to doing that with slower freight trains. Ignore all the warning signs and still fail to even look for yourself and it’s your own fault.

“This item demonstrates how stupid the average American is. Every ninety minutes someone in this country is hit by a train. A train, okay? Trains are on tracks; they can’t come and get you. They can’t surprise you when you step off a curb. You have to go to them. Got that?” – George Carlin

It’s not that simple. If it were, trains would not run into each other. Other factors you missed are where the horn on a train is placed, other distractions, and the fact that the human ear is designed to hear best from facing the sound or to the side. Only an insensitive numbskull would take a pass on taking additional steps to mitigate what amounts to one death a month on this Florida line alone by saying ” if you get hit, its because you are stupid”.
