Thank you for this thoughtful and informative article. I am an ATV injury prevention researcher who is part of a team with expertise in ATV crashes on the roads. We were able to stop a law last year in Iowa that would have allowed recreational riding of ATVs on roads by anyone with a driver’s license. We will be speaking at a legislative committee meeting on Oct 28th and hope to convince our legislators not to re-introduce the bill. Both Washington state and Michigan have recently increased ATV road use. Neither consulted ATV safety experts before passing legislation. Having the voice of law enforcement is so very valuable and I hope that more officers join in the discussion.
