A Tampa-based radio disc jockey wants a new trial in his defamation case against radio rival Bubba the Love Sponge Clem.
Todd “MJ” Schnitt’s lawyers filed court motions on Monday.
Documents filed say Schnitt and his wife did not get a fair trial last month because the opposing counsel orchestrated the DUI arrest of one of the Schnitts’ attorneys Jan. 23 and hid the fact they had that lawyer’s trial bag for about 18 hours.
A jury found that Clem didn’t defame Schnitt.
Schnitt claimed that Clem and his Bubba Radio Network defamed the Schnitts and incited Clem’s fans, known as “Bubba’s Army,” to harass the family.
Clem said his statements were protected by the First Amendment.
