My husband and I live in the Channelside area of Tampa. We recently moved to Tampa from Santa Barbara CA. In CA, drivers recieve traffic tickets if they do not yield the right of way to pedestrians in crosswalks. Every day, here in Tampa, we see cars turning across crosswalks with pedestrians when the light clearly shows the pedestrians have the right of way. We have watched off-duty police (in uniform) hired to help with the traffic flow during hockey games, ignore cars almost hitting pedestrians while they are in the crosswalk with the light showing it is safe to walk. The police do not care and neither do the drivers. It is a wonder more people are not killed.
