well, as with any insurance, don’t you sign an affadavit for such? so what is the difference here? it’s not extortion, it should be the political extortion because they demanded that we setup a fund prior to any claims being filed. all claims have to be cleared by an insurance settlement. but again, like the article stated, you either tag along or accept what they had offered. granted, bp knew it was going to pay out claims, but tell them to put money in the bank – ???
Don’t know many third party claims that are paid without getting release documents first. It looks like they just want an open ended ATM machine that they can draw on anytime.
I know two people who were paid money from the BP fund that were never affected in any way by the oil spill. One moved to Panama City way after the spill happened, she didnt work and was on welfare before she even moved there and is still on welfare, received an $11,000 check from BP. The other lives on the West Coast of Fl Central, works in a restaurant, West Coast was never affected, but he received $6000. There’s your extortion people, and these are just two examples that I personally know.
And the Gov can’t get after BP himself if he believes there is extortion going on? Almost sounds like a claimant pointing the finger at someone else, doesn’t it?
Uh, duh….Governor, where have you been since the beginning of a tort claims system, not only in your State, but across the U.S. WOW, professed conservative Republican, a business graduate from the University of Alabama, a prior 3 term U.S. congressman and a 2 term governor. Embarrassing. We are all grateful that you’re not a Judge.
