It never ends. I still can’t believe these verdicts when I see them.

This old jerk smoked for 60 years. That would put his age at death at least 74. He lived a long life and obviously enjoyed his cigarettes. If people can kick drug and alcohol habits, he should have been able to stop smoking. I don’t believe warning labels appeared on cigarette pack until the 1970’s or later. Why would his surviving family deserve $80,000,000 (tax free)? There is no rhyme nor reason for an unconscionable and absured verdict. How long did they think this guy would have lived? It’s likely he had more health problems than just cigarettes. The courts need a reality check when they make awards. If they think they’re punishing tobacco companies they’re only fooling themselves.

So for 33 years this man was fooled by the deception of the tobacco companies?
What a joke! I guess he couldn’t read the warnings on the pack either. His daughter should be suing the schools he attended too.

Levy County is a haven for low budget retirees who have nothing better to do than spend other people’s money with stupid verdicts. Getting selected for jury duty is the closest these old farts get to having sex. I agree w/P.K.’s comments. This is unjust enrichment for no valid reason. If this old pus bag didn’t die from smoking, he would have died from something else.

Agreed! If smoking is that bad, why is it legal? What about the poor children who are insured under the SCHIP program – that program is funded through cigarrette taxes. As that revenue decreases, more and more of the funding will have from cigarette smoking the funding must come from other sources of taxes inflicted upon Americans.
    Florida juries are whacked!

All the packs of cigarettes he bought said it can cause birth defects in pregnant women so he didn’t think it would affect him. If you are a guy and you smoke those are the packs you want to buy. Don’t get those lung cancer ones.

I’m sorry for the loss this daughter suffered…BUT… I’ve smoked for 40 years…know its nasty and stinks up the house, car and clothes and I also know its MY habit and MY addiction that I can do something about (so does everybody that smokes) and I continue to smoke because I enjoy a cigarette! Unfortunately, so did this gentleman.. I’ll bet he would turn over in his grave if he knew his daughter sued. He had a choice; and since he smoked..the money, to get some help if he wanted it. These juries and judges probably have never smoked and hate the folks that do… If my family did this … I’d come back to haunt and blow smoke so they would know I was still around….
