She shows up at Hospital A. They figure (for whatever reason) that she has to go to Hospital B, so they get an ambulance to do so, but the ambulance ends up taking her to Hospital C? It would really suck if she was sent away because she didn’t have insurance! Bet that first hospital wishes they’d treated her in the first place!

    Details, IJ, details!!!

It does seem strange. A hospital should be able to handle premature labor.

…unless she was in a panicked state of mind and went to a vetinarian hospital as the closest medical facility…?

“Early on Sept. 21, 2003, Margarita Chess had gone to Bert Fish (Medical Center) during the early morning hours of Sept. 21, 2003, for pain and premature labor. Dr. John Milton, who was the emergency room physiciamn, consulted with Dr. Thomas Stavoy by phone at Halifax to have her treated there, but then an EVAC ambulance was called to transport her to Arnold Palmer, according to court records.

The child, after 26 weeks of pregnancy, was born 15 minutes into the 57-mile trip, but had trouble breathing and CPR was performed. Before the child was taken to Arnold Palmer, he and his mother were treated at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford because it was closer.”

That is Arnold Palmer “Childrens” Hospital who is much better equipped to handle a premature birth than either Hospital A or B.

If the trip was not 59 miles to the nearest hospital, maybe the kid would be OK. didn’t the ambulance has oxygen to provide for the baby?

OR was this an uninsured patient who the hospital did not want? I do not blame them. NOw, EVERYONE has health insurance BUT why pay the premium until diagnosed with cancer or another terrible disease? Because Barry Obama says NO prexisting conditions exclusions, that is like buying auto insurance AFTER the accident. Barry is re-distributing wealth and it is totally unconstitutional. Wait, the attorneys general will win IF the supreme court gets it after Barry insulted their last decision.

The IJ article is way too short on details for this story. However, everyone does not have health insurance at this time. Most of the items in the health care bill don’t kick in for 2 years or more. It would be intersting to know why the first hospital kicked the can down the road.

so, here’s the ultimate question. why did they get more from the ambulance transport than the actual doctors/hospital?

i’d like to see the studies about the cerebral palsy that the lack of oxygen from birth is causing this. to me it sounds like the emt’s did the proper thing with the cpr if it deemed necessary.

how many of you think that they wanted extra money because of the cerebral palsy for the care needed in the future? i think this was the basic plan because they wanted someone else to help or make them pay for the future. are we sure that there was nothing that during childbirth that caused this? i think the fault if any lies in the doctors who decided the extra transport. that was already resolved and they got only $1.4 mil. to ask and get $10 mil from the ambulance transport, i think is wrong. truly, i think they were looking at getting more money and decided to complete the cycle of who is next to sue to get the more money. who else is capable to dig into their pocket and just freely give?
