Spoken like a true a**hole and nice comment about us “hillbillies” you bigot. I am sure you are one of those piece of garbage Northerners who keep moving down here. You obviously have never been to the area around the Gulf of Mexico. This area is a very popular tourist and retirement destination. I have a condo there myself. The ‘canes of 2004 did a ton of damage to the beach and the repairs were more than warranted. Multiple structures were total losses as well.
The state govt uses state taxpayer money for the repairs. If the people didn’t like it they would vote their representatives out. Like many of the posters on the CJ / IJ web site you have no idea about what you are saying about this particular situation.
If a “mild” storm did this much damage just think what a “severe” storm would do. How many times is the government going to placate these hillbillies by throwing good money after bad and repairing a natural phenomenon that can’t be prevented? This isn’t a “risk”, it’s a “probability”. And I don’t recall seeing Alabama beaches as a popular tourist destination either.
You live by the beach, you die by the beach. Trust me Mr. know it all, no self-respecting person outside the deep south vacations or moves to freaking Alabama. The only reason people remotely recognize the state name is from the civil rights movement. And don’t yap about people voting their representatives out. Everyone knows what controls elections and it ain’t the common folk. People who choose to live and work near a beach should be able to foot the bill for repairs. Since 99.9% can’t afford that luxury, why should we pay to allow you to enjoy it? And one more thing, if it weren’t for the few “piece of garbage northerners” who move there because they can’t afford anywhere else…..their dollars keep that dump afloat. Enjoy your heavenly bliss.
