So sorry for the loss – Not sure when the fire started or what local broadcast information was available… but I lived in an area where fire danger was a reality but not a regular occurrence – We were always vigilent in keeping tabs on where the fires were. You don’t need an official to tell you to start packing because there might be an evacuation order – I recall one such incident where the fire was miles away – but still, a video of each room and it’s contents – all our precious photos – important papers and “treasures” that couldn’t be replaced were packed in boxes by the door a day ahead of time – The fire never got anywhere near the house but we were ready just the same.

You don’t have to be told to leave if you feel threatened – You don’t have to wait to pack up and be ready to bolt at a moments notice – The time spent packing what needed to be saved wasn’t wasted – After the warnings subsided – everything went back in it’s place – a mild inconvenience – but we’re ready to do it again just in case
