Good! My parents never got a tax break nor did we and we did just fine. Take out the A/C while you are at it. Or atleast turn up the temp. All we had in school were fans. Take away the free breakfast too. I don’t care how little someone has, we have been there too, but I always had money to buy the necessities like breakfast for MY kids, not the state’s kids. Most of the time all I got was cinnimon toast made by my mother! Not something in a box. Food is cheaper that way, but people are too lazy to prepare it for their kids. And for lunch my mother also prepared us kids sugar and butter sandwiches! That would be against the law today.
We give people too much and now there is too little to go around.
As for the economy, my son saw this happening 3-4 years ago when he would go to people’s houses to do real estate closings. He would call us on his way home late at night telling us how these people would never be able to pay for these $200,000 and up houses! He could tell just by where they lived.

Good comments & perspective Gayle. I concur. Younger generations have been taught to be dependent and have never accepted personal responsibility and accountability. The current mortgage mess is a prime (no pun) example. They want, and will do anything for immediate gratification. They don’t want to put in the time on the job and save for things.

They have an attitude of entitlement and not much common sense. My parents gave me some sound advice: If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. You don’t need an MBA or financial planner to do the basic math. I don’t anybody subsidizing snow shovels and snow blowers to the folks in Buffalo, NY. It’s tiring to always hear the tales of woe from Floridians. They chose to live there. Deal with it.

The ONLY people who really benefit from anything BUT the tax breaks are illegal aliens down here.

IF they cut off all free money to them, the state would have a surplus of money.

Instead, they cut the police, domestic abuse division of the courthouse, and build a new stadium for the Marlins.

I like the tax break. For two weeks, I can get my kids what they need and NOT pay for some illegal to eat free.

I believe the woes are coming from the politicans that want to be re-elected!!! Not the people. I dont care if we get a 6.5% off supplies. I am buying them anyway, my children need it. For the illegals…they take jobs below minimum wage which allows the owner to profit more. And, a job neither you or I would never do. For the people that live on the coast line they are paying 15,000+yr for their home insurance. A person inland pays 600yr. The state sells reinsurance policies when they dont have the funds in the bank at a discount rate. Who is going to pay for that mistake? I live in Florida. I have paid my insurance for 20years, no claims, I dont complain. It is the way of life to gamble. To take risks. I pay it, in case, they sell it hoping not to pay out. A gamble either way. And, property tax where I live is only 800$ a year!! I’m not complaining.

I live in S Fla. Higher taxes, higher premiums, higher everything. (my electric bill alone has a $79 ‘surcharge’ on it this month) And I’ll buy school supplies and uniforms as well. My son has to have it. And I’ll pay higher prices for lunch. (got a letter stating that due to the ‘increase in free lunches the county has to provide, MY price is going up’) Two of the three schools in our neighborhood are 92% ESOL, 52% of that english impaired, and 97% free lunch program. I’m sick and tired of paying for it. So, yes, I enjoyed my tax break.

As far as the illegals go? Not working pays better down here for them.

They can afford to work for less since we are paying for their lifestyle. IF you ran an ad in the paper promising a crap job with crap pay that came with food stamps, free health care, free welfare checks every month, discounted tuition for college, no taxes, etc, there would be a line of american citizens for applications. By the same token if they had to pay their own way (as we do) they wouldn’t work for crap pay. So I don’t want to hear how they do jobs americans wouldn’t do for no pay. They can afford to.

You’re right about the people on the coast paying $15K and up. Those are the people who aren’t effected by this economy. Donald Trump just sold his mansion to someone who doesn’t care how much the insurance is going to be. Their private school tuition for their kids is probably more then we both make in a year. Don’t really care about them, they’re not soaking up our taxpayer money. They even have private police and fire on the ‘island’.

We’re the ones getting squeezed. We pay all the taxes, etc, but get very few of the benefits. We have a job “on the books”, so we can’t get freebies, but the cost of living is rising at a double rate of our salaries. I had to fight to get my son into a school that spoke English. Public school, but no transportation. Cutbacks. Our city has 5 cops on duty during the day. Cutbacks. Firefighters being laid off. Cutbacks. Foodstamp office is hiring. ONLY bilingual need apply- Spanish preferred. (I can send you the want ad if you like)

So now we get squeezed some more.

Sorry, I’m a little angry about the whole thing. We need to cut out the freebies to pay for the necessities. (my opinion is that police and firefighters are fairly necessary) So a couple weeks of no sales tax that I get to pay for myself and no one else was nice.

I have an issue with my taxpayer dollars going to people who are here illegally, taking welfare, foodstamps, etc, and working for cash.

What does that have to do with Mexicans?

I don’t know where you are in Fla, but down here we have illegals from just about every country out there.

Last night the news did a big story about how the city gave thousands of follars in school supplies to working poor and illegals so their children could attend school. With TAXPAYER money. Working poor- I’m fine helping them. They’re trying to get ahead. But illegals? GMAB.

The point is still that the tax-free holiday was one of the few ‘breaks’ that the working class legal American citizens got in Fla. So they took it away from us. But the free handouts for illegals got a fairly substantial increase. What part of that shouldn’t make me angry?
