I’ve been thinking this is why Lott resigned ever since he suddenly anounced his plans to leave the senate after spending time with his “family” over Thanksgiving. I’ll bet he knew then what the rest of us are finding out now. More to come…
Lott resigned when he did because of a law change that would limit his ability to lobby in Washington for a couple of years or something like that. It went into effect I think around the 1st of the year. Although I would be too surprised if he wasn’t also involved someway in the deal with Scruggs.
There might have been some promises that Lott would recommend them for a federal judgeship, etc. David does a good job of spelling out the details, and he is generally pretty funny.
I guess the fact that Dickie Scruggs is a Republican is why he bankrolled the campaign of the current Democratic Insurance Commissioner of Mississippi.
