This is all “common sense” for most people, particularly those who own businesses. What’s with Alabama that the state has to point out the obvious? Aren’t there any insurance agents there who deliver this message? I don’t subscribe to the argument that “some people” are ignorant of the need for insurance. Anybody that stupid shouldn’t own a business.
Dread, yes there are many agents that stress complete coverage. The problem is
the economy. With gas so high and the price of groceries going up, business is
not that great in many areas. Small business owners have to cut corners.
Unfortunately, they have a hard time paying higher premiums for the amount of coverage they need, so they get what they
can get by with. Homeowners are doing the same thing. With the average salary less than $20,000, and the cost of living so high some even have to choose between grocercies and bills. Insurance is for a possible loss, so they spend where it is most immediately needed.
I hate to say it but agents and consumers are much more savvy in the metropolitan areas. I was a broker in L.A. where my customers actually trusted me much like their CPA or attorney. They got it. Consumer trust and insurance education are a bit lacking, even in Charlotte.
