Hang in there, Mark. I’m with you and understand your analogy clearly.

Even before Hurricane Hugo in ’89, the industry (property insurance for those readers who don’t know much about this subject) was predicting what would happen when the “Big One” (Betsy almost did) made a direct hit on New Orleans, being that it was built below sea-level and protected by only the flood dykes (or is it dikes?). This was Mother Nature’s actions at her worst! Now we have seen the results.

The problem is not with Bush and big government, unless it’s the local and state level in La., but with the population who CHOSE to stay there despite all of the years of prior warnings.

Maybe they should blame Jean LaFete or whomever built the first cabin down there on the silt-based banks of the Mississippi River before Col Jackson defeated the British in the Battle of New Orleans. I know! Let’s blame the British!

The levy was never repaired properly by the federal government and they knew it would not withstand, I believe a 3 level hurricane. Why wasn’t it fixed if everyone knew this fact?

Dickie complied to the letter of the law. It might ruffle the feathers of a fed judge but never the less, he complied with the law

State Farm said it would be “factually and legally wrong” for Hood to argue that his new investigation isn’t barred by his January 2007 agreement with State Farm if it focuses on fraud against the federal government rather than fraud against policyholders.
Please do not let state farm get away with this.

“State Farm has reduced its rates and has agreed to stop business practices that the Office found objectionable,” said Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty. “Our governor and our legislature required this by law, so I am happy to see that State Farm has reached this agreement for the benefit of its policyholders.”

    :
If you read the State Farm spin you would think they were actually pleased to settle “without costly and lengthly litigation”. But if they thought dragging this out was “in no one’s best interest” why didn’t they do the right thing right after the loss? I believe the answer is unless they have a trial facing them they will continue to try and avoid payment. And when they do pay they require an agreement of no disclosure. They want to keep their dirty little secrets and buy their way out. And they have the nerve to advertise as a good neighbor!
