Am saddened by postings about the many Floridians who live in mobile homes/trailers.

Guess you don’t understand why retirees would want a cost effective housing alternative to protect their financial assets since their earning years are over. Nor does there appear to be any empathy for those in the rural FL areas where the median income is below $30,000. No way for those folks to afford a stick built home when the low end homes cost well over $100,000.
Yes, a few are opting for a cheap alternative but most are just trying to provide a home for their families instead of an apartment.

In case you’re wondering, Yes, I do live in the panhandle. No, I don’t live in a mobile home.

Chrome: I have to agree with superjuster. “mobile homes” are mobile. Nobody is forcing people to stay in Fla. and there is plenty of space elsewhere to park it. Also, there is no cost effective way to turn a mobile home (aka trailer) into a safe dwelling during a tropical storm/hurrican/tornado. On the other hand, “manufactured housing” has enjoyed excellent results in withstanding storms. These don’t have wheels and aren’t mobile.

I can appreciate the high costs of living and the struggle many folks have getting by. I can’t appreciate why they’d risk their families lives by parking in a hurricane zone. As for the snow-birds and retirees, they were responsible for their own retirement planning. Just because they chose Fla. doesn’t mean the rest of us have to subsidize them.

    See you know I’m correct!
I’ve looked for less expensive places to live and it’s all checks and balances.
There are no more so called inexpensive places to live every state matches income, taxes and cost of living.

Good day and nice exchanging conversation!

Some of you guys are brutal. I agree that it’s their job to plan for retirement, pay their own way, etc. And, if they can’t afford insurance then don’t buy it. Plus most of them should move where it’s cheaper but when you’re old (and young) warm weather feels nice. But don’t make fun of the people because that’s all they have.

Mark: I’m not making fun of anyone, but after you work in claims for any period of time you realize you have to be able to separate emotion from business. It seems that the responsible people who budget and plan always get stuck subsidizing those who don’t and I don’t think that’s right. When an unforeseen disaster hits somebody I’m more than willing to help, but when somebody makes a poor, short-sighted choice, that’s something different. I like the warm weather as much as anyone else, but there’s more to consider than just that. People shouldn’t depend on the government to take care of them.

Boy, I thought that the rest of the country had some pretty inconsiderate arrogant people. Did I say that these people were looking for hand outs? Noooo!
Re-read my message. I don’t know too many people that want government help after all it’s the biggest PITA that you could ever imagine and yes there are risks with living in a state that is surrounded by ocean on three sides but again I think that was an arrogant inconsiderate comment made by Mr Ayotte and think he owes an apology.
I might add there is NO way you can buid a modular home for the price of a mobile home anywhere in this country.I’ve checked!
If there is point me in the direction. I am a bit taken back by the rude comments made by the very people in Florida I have chosen to make my final resting place.
If Floridians don’t want people down there then you all can go pound sand. Take every government subsidy you have ever gotten because of storm damage away and see where your butts would be then.
If I remember correctly every insurance company in this country was an S.O.B.for not getting there and paying their policy holders claims and didn’t it take forever to process all those claims.I wonder how many satisfied policy holders you have from people who were affected.Insurance agents can’t do squat if the insurance company says otherwise so don’t be so bold.
Insurance was enacted to help people in the event they suffered financial loss they could not afford to pay out-of-pocket. It’s not the citizens fault that insurance company lobbyists have brain washed our politicians into mandating insurance. I just as soon take my chances instead of paying premiums hell I could have a new home in a matter of 10 years if I didn’t HVAE to pay insurance.
Count your blessings because I think you are one of those shark insurance agents that all he has on his mind is how much can they charge this person based on their capacity to pay and it’s obvious with your rating system you cornholio the poor guys and people on fixed income.
I am not defending the idiots you see being arrested on the show COPS.I am defending people like myself that have worked hard at a large company mind you and have been taken advantage of many times over.
I agree with the comments made by the fellow Mark.He seems to have a good head on his shoulders. The rest of you I really hope that one day you walk a mile in the man’s shoes that doesn’t have financial stability.
Remember you can loose money it as quick as you made it!

Chrome – I really think you need to investigate your statement that there is no place in the country to own a home on a single income, as i mentioned in my previous post, i know several people who own homes (2-3 bedrooms) and they live on single incomes. Some choose to live in the smaller areas surrounding omaha, which makes it even cheaper.

i know most “coasters” (east and west) think of the midwest and “fly over country” but quite frankly, i don’t feel sorry for any of you. if you can’t afford to live in an expensive state such as florida, why would you stay?

my friend is a dentist in KC and makes a killing because the cost of living is so low. he has thought about moving to a bigger city but is content to stay put because he doesn’t have to pay so much for housing, etc…

i think you need to quit acting like the whole country is out to get you and therefore you have been forced to stay in florida.

If I might add a lot of large corporations build on the Florida coast and if you think for one minute they don’t look to the government for help you’re sadly mistaken.
Mr Nebrasken, I can’t live in a cold climate.
