It is easy to read the foregoing comments and see how the recent Bush Rove Cheney political leadership (manipulation) and abdication of government power in favor of unregulated markets (e.g. insurance, e.g. energy trading and Enron, power shortages in California, etc., etc.) have damaged and divided our country. Gee, I thought we were all Americans. Gee, I thought we should all be sharing the risk as a financial whole. But no, look at the sorry comments from a battered and abused people whose only communal enterprise of the last 6 years has been waging war. Divide and conquer and give the Federal Treasury to the top 1/2 of 1 % via tax cuts. Don\’t knock it, they have already pulled it off. Not to mention the money wasted in Iraq. What good could have been accomplished with it instead.

Maybe the Bush family can abdicate. I hear they\’re building a big compound in Panama to isolate themselves from the little people after they lose political power. First Daddy gets Noriega out of there through an invasion and then years later…

And how about that recent opening up the eastern Gulf to oil drilling near Florida now that Jeb is political toast? No need to fake it any more.

Enough with the decider and uniter. Time for genuine leadership. Time to be Americans again instead of a bunch of green eyed children squabbling over their little stacks of money. Our problem is not each other but our demonstrably failed leaders and their corrupt and corrupting ideas. Time for fresh air.

THE BUSHES AND GOVERNMENT DID NOT CAUSE ALL THE STORMS, DAMAGE, AND AFTERWARDS ALL THE WHINING AND DO NOTHING ATTITUDE OF THOSE WHO WHIN.THEY WANT GOVERNMENT AND WELFARE TO SOLVE THEIR PROBLEMS. DO NOT CONTINUE TO LIVE IN A HIGH DANGER AREA UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO ASSUME THE RISK.

As a midwestener I\’d be very happy to pay more taxes so that Floridians can live on sand next to the waters edge. I\’m sure they would do the same for me in the event of a hurricane destroying my house in Illinois.

Blame Bush? are you people THAT stupid? Here is a problem solver – MOVE OUT OF THE FRIGG\’IN HURRICANE AREAS! The rest of us are sick and tired of paying taxes to FEMA to bail you people out all the time.

Can anyone tell me where one MIGHT live in the United States to avoid such natural events that insurance companies won\’t try to wiggle out of paying claims for ? I don\’t know of many safe places in the country to live…every place has its issues whether it be floods, tornadoes, mudslides, wild fires, earthquakes, terrorist bombings….just where is one suppose to live ? Insurance companies are in the business to insure RISK. Until such time that they actually live up to their promises, they all ought to be forced out of business. Wake up !!!!

I guess Ginny Tonic would be happier if insurers left the state. I dont guess higher insurance, or the nuisance of rebuilding every year, will cause her to
relocate. Maybe at the end of the day she
literally cannot afford to own on the beach. It galls me that people want to
live in paradise, for free. Nice things
    come at a high cost.

JJ – I am a native Floridian and I am offended by your \”you people\” statement. I will not leave Florida, as this is my home. Yes, we live in a tropical place and with that comes a risk of hurricanes. What are you suggesting? That everyone move out of the state of Florida to avoid YOU PEOPLE paying tax money to FEMA? We did not make you pay this tax to FEMA, your federal government did.

And Ferdinand, Florida is not all white sandy beaches, we have beautiful farmland, big cities, and great family suburbs…come visit us some time!

Hey Bethany – ever heard of a contract?
Ever heard of contract law? Ever looked at an insurance contract, designed to specifically state exactly what is covered
and what is not, so that even the dullest
of clients, among whom I am sure you reside, can make no mistake about what is
covered and what is not. We just had a
windstorm here, and thankfully none of my
clients called to ask \’well what do I have this goddamn insurance for\’. Why did they not call with that ever-stupid
question? Because we have worked together
effectively to help them understand the contract. You must work in a bank, or some 800 number company.

Yeah, bethany, the solution is to put insurers out of business. Right. You got it.

The simple fact is anything is insurable, for the right actuarially developed price. If the regulators won\’t let that price be charged, then the solution is to exclude it.

let\’s face it, we\’re all paying for risks that may or may not happen in our state – how about now not having terrorism coverage unless you pay addl premium for it? We\’re all paying to insure risks in other states, like it or not- Like it or not Florida is more risk prone than other areas – apparantley New York City is prone to terrorist attacks – should everyone move from there too?
