Oklahoma City police say they’re investigating the largest copper wire heist that’s ever happened in the city.
Drivers were left in the dark after thieves cut down copper wires from traffic signals and light poles this past weekend. Police Cpt. Dexter Nelson says the crimes knocked out dozens of street lights and two intersections in a five-mile area.
Nelson says the way the wire was stolen also created a serious safety hazard. He says live wires were left sticking out of the ground where the cables were cut.
Police say they haven’t yet made any arrests. They’ve told local metal dealers to watch for the stolen wire.
