That is very extreme. The punishment doesn’t fit the crime at all. Nobody was even injured!! And these boys are a few years over being minors. They’re kids! They definately need to do some time and some therapy but LIFE?? Child molesters get less time than that. I guess now we know, never burn a church down in Texas. Since they can’t hang you, they’ll lock you up for the rest of your life. Or at least try to.

life?! 5 churches burned down – do you know the cost to rebuild these churches? they should be making money while in jail to make some restitution to those churches. age does not matter because they are adults and knew it was a crime. why do you think they plead guilty! who knows, now they will be in prison and then convert to religion and finally have a heart. um….

What they did was definitely wrong, but LIFE? That is harsh; especially since they did not kill anyone. I am not excusing what they did do; however, I do not think that their crime warrants life imprisonment. WOW! I hope their attorneys appeal!

These so called “kids” were punks who deserved what they got. Besides, Life does not mean Life. They will be up for parole in 7-10 years. With good behavior, they will be out by the time they are 30. I wish they had got 20 to Life with mandatory served time.

Well of course I wouldn’t take someone from Texas comments very seriously. They’re merciless. Yeah I can say that, I’m from Texas. And anybody that says ‘Don’t mess with Texas’ needs their *** kicked. ;)
Yeah, all kids who are punks should be locked up for life. Sure LEGALLY they’re adults but let’s consult common sense here. Laws aren’t substitutes for that. A 22 year old doesn’t quite have the decision making capacity or maturaty as say, a 40 year old. Once you’re that age, you’ve lived life long enough to know A LOT better and don’t get thrills out of destroying things anymore, so to speak. If they were older, supposedly wiser men then I can understand the punishment a little more. And so what if they’re released after 5 years or 10 years? They’re not free and clear. They’ll be on parole, unable to live a happy, free and normal life after they’ve lived their lesson. They have that right. They didn’t take away anyone else’s. Everyone dserves a second chance. They’re young enough and not set in their ways enough that they can be guided to a better outlook on being a good contributor to society. Churches can be rebuilt. Aren’t the things taught in church something along the lines of ‘forgiveness’?

Ana, You sound like the typical bleeding heart liberal who thinks these punks should get off light. What were they supposed to get, probation for burning all these churches down. Arson is a very serious crime and we were fortunate that no one was injured or killed by these acts. Their parents obviously didn’t teach them right from wrong and these boys had been in trouble before. They are adults and should pay the consequences for their actions.

I would not want Texas Agent2 as a juror in my pool! Arson is a serious crime; however, murder is more serious and even murderers get less time. Bottom line, the crime does NOT fit the punishment. Besides, we do not know anything about their upbringing to make comments about parents not teaching them right from wrong. Furthermore, they are adults as you stated and the parents are no longer apart of the equation. Maybe they burned the churches down because they were molested. Things that make you go hmmmmm…

If people could just go around lighting fires to public buildings like churches without harsh repercussions, then the world would be much worse off. People burn to death in fires. We shouldn’t have too wait for the arsonist to slip up and cause someones death of accident before we put them away for good.
