This article leaves a lot for the imagination like most of the “disabled” articles that I’ve seen. The media could find worthwhile situations in which the harm is undeniable, but that wouldn’t bring the hate to light. This irresponsible journalism brings out the hate from society. Did the teacher ask for accomodation? What was the response from her employer? Were there others that could do that task for her, without taking them from their duties? If she has “sued”, as in the past, what was the outcome? And yes, the fact that there are a few people that are asking for accomodations that are not needed are harming the rest of us, disabled or not. However, the horrendous conditions that people with disabilities are living with and the ridiculous things that we are “putting up with” just to keep a job does not make employers look good. Personally, I’ve always done everything that occurs to me to help others to do their jobs. There are many others that will not do anything, no matter how slight the cost for them, to make life for their employees or coworkers bearable. Yes, the legal system does harm to the people that have done harm to others. Maybe a better way would be to treat people with dignity and to use or brains to find solutions instead of trying to further harm to people that have medical issues.

If you have a pre-existing condition that prevents you from working outdoors then you should get a desk job that doesn’t require it. Either that or carry a golf umbrella but don’t sue an employer. The fact that this whack job settled a different claim speaks volumes.
