I worked for Unitrin for many years, I think there were more people involved in
other areas (like audit, loss control).
This was discovered quite by accident due to policy review upon book roll.

Brenda and I were up for promotion at the same time. They promoted Brenda instead of me. I left the company due to their decision as I believe the decision was unfair and they promoted the wrong person. Hmmmm wonder if they wish they could turn back time. I don’t; I love my management job and my company. The Lord knows what he is doing!!!!!!!!

This crime was well thought out and complicated. As time passed and procedures were put into place to detect fraud, she altered her process. Fake bills with fake companies with fake W9s and a myraid of other procedures including slipping into coworker’s cubicles and paying bills off their IDs made this crime very difficult to detect. It is easy to throw stones now but the reality is that she was a criminal intent on stealing.

I just now read of the situation. Could not have happened to a better company.
Use’m up throw them away attitude of Unitrin did reach back and bite them.
I do not approve of the actions of the employee though.
Also, not the first time something like this has taken place at Unitrin.

I worked with Ms Buckaloo for 13+ years. She was probably the last person anyone would suspect of this crime. To my knowledge there was no prior indication to anyone this was going on. She finally made a big mistake and was uncovered by her Supervisor. Now her bake sales and peanut brittle for the next 12-years will be behind bars.
P.S. Most of this theft occurred under the previous company, not Unitrin.

The managers at Unitrin were much too busy trying to pretend they knew what they were doing, to catch this thief. They were all fairly incompetent but kept their jobs while many others lost theirs. I worked there for years and their focus was always on perception and not results. They did not care about their employees, and all of the top managers supervising this operation should have been retired or fired.
