We have an Ike claim. Although inspectors/adjusters came on October 1, we have not received any action. A tree fell on our house. We put tarps on our roof but heavy rains on November 10 and 12th have caused significant damage to our bathroom. The delay in being able to get the insurance funds needed for a new roof has led to more damage. It is now 2 months since Ike. After being passed around at the adjuster’s office, we believe our claim may now be on its way to Texas Windstorm. We learned this after we called the adjusters and said we would contact the Atty. General of Texas if we did not hear from them. It is very disheartening to go through a storm much less having to deal with the insurance system.

Our adjuster sent our claim to Texas Windstorm at least 10 days ago. As part of our claim the adjuster also sent in a request for an advance since we are unable to live in our home which was heavily damaged by Ike. The recent rainy weather has caused even more damage eventhough our roof has been covered by tarps. Mold and mildew is everywhere.

We really need to get started fixing our house. How long does it take to get money to repair / replace our property once Texas Windstorm gets the adjusters paperwork? And to further complicate everything, our money has to go to the mortgage company and they claim they will issue funds back to us in allotments to repair our house. The mortgage company didn’t pay my insurance bills. All they are doing is tying my hands and expecting the homeowner to pay for damages out of their own pocket.

WINDSTORM INSURANCE ADJUSTER ASSESSED MY GALVESTON PRIMARY RESIDENCE WELL OVER A MONTH AGO. NO CORRESPONDENCE OR RETURN OF MY CALLS REGARDING ASSESSMENT! NO ISSUANCE OF TEMPORARY CHECK FOR “LOSS OF USE” CLAIMS.
I HAVE E-MAILED AN ITEMIZED PROOF OF CLAIM TO ADJUSTER. NO ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF MY PROOF OF CLAIM BY ADJUSTER! WHAT A WAY TO HANDLE POLICY HOLDERS WHO ARE IN DESPERATE NEED?

We also filed an Ike claim and an adjuster came to our house about 8 or 9 weeks ago. We have contacted our adjuster and he tells us he is sending the paperwork over to windstorm this week but that is his answer everytime we contact him. The last few times we have called him and left a message on his voicemail he has not returned our call.

Does anyone know how long the insurance companies legally have before they have to act on your storm claim? Ike hit 3 months ago. I’m sure there’s a time limit for making an Ike claim. It seems like there should likewise be a time limit for an insurance company to pay you for your losses.
