Ok, first the governments get raked over the coals for not evacuating sooner with Katrina and now, with Gustav, which could have been just as big as Katrina, the people are pissed bacause someone was trying to possibly save their life. Helms sounds like a nimrod. Why did he only have $20 and the clothes on his back? Most likely, that was the last of his welfare money before 9/1. He said he only left as he did not want to get arrested for being out in the streets. Well, you idiot, all you would have had to do is stay in your home. Maybe we can just build a giant inflatable dome around New Orleans and put all the lowlifes in their to live. They can suck on each other’s teats.

Yup. So much for taking care of fellow Americans, Compman! The only lowlife present is YOU! People will complain whether you like it or not. How about the wildfires of California every year and there’s still the constant rebuilding of homes in the desert. Address that! Why do people have to pay for that! So do the majority in this country who live in Flood zones in the midwest and those that rebuild constantly in Tornado Alley. NOLA is below sea level but has the most important port in the country if not the world, a cruise ship industry, numerous conventions and wetlands that are in dire need of conservation.

I hate for people to complain about stupid stuff too and just for laughs some people need to be schooled that not only do you pack an evacuation kit bu actually save up enough money to evacuate in the first place. You have to take care of you and yours. It’s not the big payday of Katrina anymore and it’s not the government’s job to bail anyone out Black or White. FEMA did great and so did Nagin for once.

You’re an idiot and maybe someone should tie your ultra conversative, WASP behind to the Superdome next time a ‘cane comes through! Being a whiner is an equal opportunity employer, Butt-Wipe!

Couldn’t agree more. Its just a shame we can’t open the flood gates and wash these idiots into the Gulf and out to sea. Save us the time to count the bodies or hear the *****in from them!

I just loved watching people on the news filmed looting electronic and furniture stores that were under 10 feet of water. They must of forgot to take a brain when they were being passed out. Last time anyone checked, furniture that has been in that dirty of water will smell like crap forever and electronics don’t work once they have been submerged. Ray Nagin did the Big Easy a favor getting the people out of harms way and off the news.

Too ashamed to even put a name on your post? Pathetic. But guess what? I agree with you regarding building in the wild fire areas too. If people want to live in these areas, then they should be willing to pay the price if something happens. I agree with most of your post as it mirrors my post. You starting your post chastising me and by the end, you were agreeing with me. I don’t have any problem with letting people stay in their homes during and evacuation, just so they know they are on their own if they do not heed the warnings. Did the Gov’t jump the gun on Gustav? maybe, maybe not. But I think they had no choice based on what happened with Katrina. Many lives were saved due to this evacuation and if it caused a little discomfort and inconvenience to others to save the lives, I say quit your *****ing and be happy you are alive.

It’s not so much agreeing with you as I have a problem with people that are so crass in their opinions. If you call yourself a professional then I would expect a more professional delivery of your opinion. We can agree to disagree or whatever but just wholesale abuse of the English language too. It’s “there” NOT “their”.

Sorry, I wasn’t an Englis major in college. I opted for an Accounting degree. I felt that would pay me more money. I have always had problems with “their” and “there” and was told that “their is possesive and “there” is not. I didn’t go back and re-read my original post so I don’t know if I screwed up or not, but since you feel I did, i will bow to your superior skills in the english language.

BTW, my new hybrid golf clubs arrived about 10 minutes ago so you won’t hear from me at all tomorrow!!!

If mayor Nagin had done his job with Katrina like he did with Gustav he would not have to blame FEMA for his and LA governor’s incompetence.

The key screw-up the “government” is making here is in NOT allowing people to get back to their homes promptly. If you don’t let people come back quickly, then you diminish the odds that they’ll want to leave in the first place.

At least they weren’t so [expletive deleted] stupid about pets this time. Who says dumb politicians can’t learn?

The FIRST and PRIMARY solution to this problem is to stop subsidizing living in a frickin’ fishbowl. There’s a reason the Quarter is where it is – the original fort was destroyed by storms two times before it stuck, it’s on a high point. The “government” has been subsidizing living in a coastal flood area through (1) extensive (and hubristic) levees, (2) below market flood insurance rates, and (3) below market coastal property rates in general, thanks to the now-mostly-neutered LIRC.

I don’t advocate tearing down the levees, but we could fix (2) and (3) pretty quickly. When it costs too much to insure the property in a certain location, it’ll discourage building there.

    :-)

Now, a lagniappe; some more keys to a good evacuation.

Optional, but ASSISTED. Many if not most residents of the City that Care Forgot don’t have vehicles, they don’t need ’em or can’t afford them. At the same time, don’t babysit those too stupid to evac when they should, and don’t inconvenience those who are prepared enough to NOT NEED to evacuate.

    Contraflow early

Allow pets and LOTS of comfort goods to be taken along. A good comfortable evac where they don’t have to worry about how Fluffy is or whether the No-Gos will shoot their Rotties while they’re gone, is an evac that might be taken NEXT time.

Allow quick returns after the fact, ESPECIALLY when the situation turns out relatively mild compared to the buildup.

Allow private citizens entry for post-disaster assistance. Let’s face it, dem coona$$e$ are gonna be better at search and rescue than the No-Gos will be, and they won’t make it look like a “police state” to the citizens there.

You have it all wrong! I remember reading that George Bush & Dick Cheney blew up the levees! Kayne West said George Bush didn’t like black people on a telethon. Let’s remember to blame Bush.
