By golly, if my parents weren’t dead I would prosecute for abuse in a heartbeat. Not only did they smoke, we had a fireplace which added to my serious damage. (cough-cough)

Like many of the above folks, I am a quit smoker(1967)after 10 years of 2+ packs a day – but this is Democratic ‘feel good’ legislation. Smokes are already 6.50 to 7.00 a pack lots of places and people continue to buy and use them. It is true that 3/4 of the adults over 25 in the USA do not not smoke as most sales of these crap sticks occur overseas. But look at the bright side – smokers tend to eliminate themselves early from the gene pool and are pretty much social pariahs everywhere except sinks of illiteracy and corruption like Louisiana

Okay….. Everyone get out your pencils and figure out how many public programs are funded by the taxes imposed on cigarettes? Funny… we fund health care, education programs and even try to balance our budget with these things. If the govt shut the doors, isn’t that like cutting your nose off to spite your face? In an industry that has the highest profile in the media, health care and public arenas – why do you think they are still around? Because people will do what they want no matter what the cost or regulation.

Do I agree that you should smoke in your car when transporting your kid? No Way – Studies have without a doubt shown that second hand smoke is just as if not more lethal than choking down a fag yourself – Your kids don’t have a choice – – they are a captive audience – Parents need to take personal responsibility…but we all know how that goes or we wouldn’t be in this business.

Crossing the line? Maybe – but if we are going to be able to maintain affordable health care in our generation, and those to come – something has to be done to try to curb the effects of 2HSmoke on young americans – unless you’re willing to start paying higher insurance premiums. Yeah… I thought so – This isn’t the first state to pass this law – Check out CA – they’re already way ahead of OK.

Course, as a former smoker – I can’t even stand sitting around traffic when someone is hanging their cig out the window (what’s up with that anyway?) Do they think they’re keeping the stench out of their car – or just want to share with the rest of us?

I say pass the law – Heck – Massachusetts is making it illegal to spank your kid on the fanny – what’s another log on the fire?

ARRRRGGGGG ! ! ! ! Enough already. Smokers PAY AND PAY AND PAY – and are frankly treated as if they are committing an illegal act when they light up.

I am a smoker with two children… while I do not make a practice of smoking with them in the car – I do occaisionally – and I must admit that I, not the State of OK nor the US Gov, paid for my car. I also pay the insurance and maintenance. If they don’t want me to smoke in the car with my children then perhaps they should purchase a car and hire a chauffeur to escort them to their multitude of activities – I could certainly use the “time-off” from the constant running.

Medical expenses related to WEIGHT far exceed expenses incurred due to smoking – yet smokers are penalized by being charges higher rates. If big brother wants to monitor my smoking under the guise of protecting my children from child abuse – then it only makes sense to monitor parents who feed their children Fast Food… who don’t see that their children excersize, etc.

    In closing this bill CHAPS…
