Obviously the jury saw the cases in light of the extremely hazardous circumstances which were present from Katrina.

While I feel for the family members, I do believe the jury made the correct decision.

I believe that if the jury had found the Mangano’s guilty, you would have also have had to charge (and convict) the family members of negligent homicide as well.

    just a question…

a quote from the article…”Said juror Michael Cavalier, 39: “The state was responsible for the safety of nursing home residents. They didn’t do what they should have. They didn’t make the decisions they should have. So when the Manganos made their decision, why should they try to crucify them for it? That isn’t right.” ”

let’s say local officials had issued a mandated evacuation, if people do NOT evacuate, is the state, or even those local officials, responsible for their decision?

How often did we hear claims that the federal government was responsible for so much of Katrina’s damage and loss of life. Now a court has begun to put the blame where it belongs – right at the feet of the governments effectively in the position to make the decisions. The local governments had the information and knowledge to make decisions based on that knowledge. Don’t leave it to the Feds to micromanage – that is why we have the separation of the Feds from the locals. I don’t want the Feds to make decisions like that.

I totally agree that this was the right verdict in this case. The fact is the state and local officials were negligent in not issuing a mandatory evacuation order. I feel for the families that lost loved ones too. However, I feel more for the Manganos, who had their lives turned upside down and were forced to incur devestating legal costs to defend against frivolous charges by an overzealous attorney general.

My goodness a real and thinking jury plus an excellent verdict. I hope that the jury is equally as smart on the civil cases against this poor couple.

I can’t believe the families of the so-called “victims” actually have the audacity to demand or expect an apology from this couple. Why apologize when one did nothing wrong.

Where were the families by the way? People dump their family members in these places, some of which are pretty awful and then ignore them. If my family member is in one of these places I’m going to go there myself and make sure that they are ok. We have always got to blame somebody else don’t we? How could we be at fault?

BINGO !! If the survivors were so concerned why didn’t they evacuate their alleged loved ones? I suspect guilt drives many of these suits…..right after making a fast buck. They were probably irked at having to pay funeral expenses they never budgeted for.

Jury: did an excellent job in resolving the issue. but my concern wud be, why the judge allowed the prosecution dictate of those homes that did evacuate, but not allow the defense attorney to bring up those that did not? that’s not equality or demonstration, that decisions we made on both sides of the fence. and did not a group die in the bus that evacuated due to a fire pending a long line of evacuation? whose fault was that? state’s for not getting good evacuation routes?!
it truly amazes me that we always think that it’s someones fault — in that case, let’s sue mother nature — uh oh…she does not have a finances!! i know families suffered but they could have been saved by their families as well…

this society is so weighted on government to help and maintain control, they forget their own responsiblity.
