It is beyond me why there is a seatbelt law for regular passenger vehicles, but it is not required on school buses. I never understood that. Makes no sense. Even if they save one child\’s life, it is worth the money. Should be state law, or even a Federal Law. Put seatbelts on buses!! Common sense, people.

Who is going to be responsible for the kids \”buckling up\”?? The bus driver or coaches, or some other adult? As a former coach, I can tell you that I don\’t want the responsibility of continually patrolling a darken bus at night while returning from a game. And I am sure that the driver would rather concentrate on driving.

Shame on you (former) coach!!! What a horrible thought, YOU (or any other school official) being in charge of our children\’s well being while they are in your care during an away game. That duty is already on school employees when they take the childresn off of school grounds. So rather than saving lives by putting seat belts in school buses you\’d rather let the kids take their chances just so you don\’t have to get off your lazy butt and make sure they put on their seatbelts?! I\’d hate to be your kid, or your spouse for that matter. Your last name may be \”Sweet\”, but you are certainly NOT! What a selfish,in-humane person you are. If you were at my kid\’s school, I\’d be contacting my superintendent with a formal complaint.

The parents are the most appalling aspect of this article. They don\’t care about anything but the deep pockets of companies involved. Shame on them for disgracing their childs\’ memory.

Your are just the type of parent whose kid would get into trouble and you would be all over the school board for letting little Johnny look up some girls skirt with his camera phone!. Take some personally responsibility. If you had read Gary\’s response better, he was infering that sure, you can make them buckle up when you leave the parking lot, but how are you going to make sure they leave the belts on once you start going down the road. I think he was showing the practical side, not the selfish side. God, I am glad you were not my mother, I probably would have turned out gay!

The issue is that busses should have seat belts just as private passenger vehicles do. Hopefully children have learned to \”buckle up\” long before they get on a school bus. Just as the bus driver says \”sit down\” or \”quiet down\” he/she could easily say \”buckle up.\” If a child decides not put on a seat belt, at least the rest of the children would be safer. If an accident happens, we would hope that the children that buckled up would not be harmed. Drivers and passengers of private vehicles make a choice whether to buckle up every day. At least it would be an option.

While I agree with Anne that it would be nice to secure our children better and make them safer, I would like to know the last time Anne was on a school bus for kids. These kids are not like trained dogs, they will do as they please. As the father of an 18yr old boy who rode the bus for his Freshman and Sophomore years, he would tell me stories about what went on. To put it mildly, what went on the bus was more raucus than what we used to do at fraternity parties. The bus driver has no control on this either.
