I think the insurance companies should pay up. I also think fema and the goverment should give all the help they can for not repairing the levee\’s. We can help all these countries overseas why not help the people who work and pay taxes every day. We should help the homeowners to rebuild there lives.

I completely understand that you get what you pay for. But we are all advised on our choices in life. Our area did not require flood coverage, but we got $20k worth of coverage, in case the hot water heater broke or something. The guy that had the house before us lived there for 25 years and never received a drop of water in the house. Our homes flooded in St Bernard because of the levy breach, we trusted the government to keep us protected. They failed to do so. No one is asking for a million dollar lawsuit, all anyone wants is a home. It\’s not the fault of the insurance companies, true, but the government gives you $2000 and says they\’ve helped out all Katrina victims. I\’m sure your home wasn\’t destroyed due to a fault by the government, so you have your own opinion. It\’s almost been 3 months and they won\’t even tell us if we can rebuild, now my ceiling is covered with mold and it\’s just getting worse, which will cost more. If you\’re not from the affected areas, you have no clue what\’s going on. I could deal with it if we weren\’t expecting our first child next month, but not having a place to live with a newborn kind of takes a toll on you during all of this. Thanks for listening.

I very sorry the hear of your loss. As an insurance agent, we are hear to protect our insureds. Your agent has not done you justice if he/she did not offer the coverage. Your insurance agent not the company should be hearing your anger. If they did say you were covered, they should be given the lawsuit. If you do not have an agent and you bought you homeowner policy direct from the carrier (GEICO, USAA, Progressive), your now see why buying directly from the carrier is not always the way to go. You have no recourse from a mistake you make on your own. My prayers go out to you and your family for a quick recovery.

THESE COMPANIES NEED NOT BE IN BUSINESS NOR BE ALLOWED TO WRITE POLICES IN ANY STATE. THEY ALL NEED TO FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES AS WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS CRIMINAL. I HAVE CRIED SO MUCH, I CAN\’T CRY ANYMORE. I\’M MAD.

It does not matter if the agent is around or not. If you contact the carrier that had your homeowners, they will have a copy of the agents E & O policy on file. You can file the claim on the E & O policy. [E & O policies are written on a \”claims made\”, that means if his/her policy was inforce durring Katrina, your covered (providing he/she told you had coverage)]. Ask an attorney that knows insurance law.

In answer to NC, insurance was purchased thru an agent who is no longer with the company.

I have been going in circles since this whole thing happened. Thank you for placing blame where blame is do. I am a new homw owner and assumed to purchase insurance was a good thing. Not when you get the run around. I was given a small amout to fix thousands of dollars worth of damage. I hope you get them to do what is right for the people of New Orleans. They have to realize that if it was not for Hurricane Katrina the water would not have came, along with the levees. We have cried to much, time for them to cry. My insurance company is Louisiana
Fair Plan. The only fair thing they did was take my MONEY!

I owned a home in LA and MS during Katrina and both homes were insured.
State Farm in MS Paid $0
    ANPAC in LA Paid $0
What does that spell? Fraud & Piracy
If we do not stand up & stand together
they will continue to treat us this way…simply because \”they can\”

    Time to Demand Justice…
We\’re all riding in the back of the bus
