I think it’s about time. Other states have this type of program and it seems to work. Nothing will catch every uninsured driver, but this should eliminate a substantial amount of them.
It is about time the liability law had some teeth to it. We had the law in place but no real way to enforce it except by giving tickets and that has not worked.
Perhaps it would be good to consult with some insurance people before going off half cocked about verification and who is going to be resposible for that verification.
Why are they trying to implement another “policing” measure, which ends up passing the cost down to the public? Why not simply adopt of other states philosophies? If you are uninsured, then you do not collect (except for medical) and are unable to sue, even if the accident isn’t your fault.
So how does that protect people who do carry liability insurance from the uninsured motorists? Your suggestions only address the situation if the uninsured is a claimant.
Better yet…how about when they are pulled over and you don’t have proof of insured, they immediately take you to jail and impound your car. I believe they do that in some counties here is Texas.
If you , as an Insured driver were AF (claimant is uninsured), you would be responsible for meds, but not responsible for property damage or could not be sued. No insurance, you forfeit you rights.
Not a great system, but at least it doesn’t add another unenforceable action on companies.

It is bascailly ran as a mock no-fault program.

Get ready to write alot of auto insurance to some flakes and illegals.
I guess we should be happy that there are “blue companies” to accommodate this need. (tongue-n-cheek)
