Setting aside the rare instance in which there’s a faulty signal or impaired engineer, most fatalities are preventable. Those who get hit aren’t in the middle of marked and protected crossings. They’re in out of the way areas where they don’t belong. We don’t need to waste more money on a non-preventable problem.
