I’ll bet that …”Mississippi (28 percent), New Mexico (26 percent), Tennessee (24 percent), Oklahoma (24 percent), and Florida (24 percent). …” are actually closer to the true number countrywide.

Consumers need to protect themselves by getting uninsured and under-insured motorist coverage. Unfortunately, the consumer has been trained to look at the price of the policy instead of the coverage.

Joe is correct, 15 minutes will save you 15%. Nothing but a basic policy, regardless of the company. But the real problem that no one will address is that when you get hit by one of these un-insured drivers is that most of the time you have to sue your own carrier in order to collect the benefits of what you paid for.

Been there and had to do that!

Where is the govt. to enforce that these deadbeat drivers have insurance when they drive?!

The government can’t enforce more than the minimum insurance required to get driver registration. State requirements are only $15K per person/$30K per accident/$5K property damage, so there is minimal coverage for even a fender bender.
Once the person gets their insurance, they only have to have it active for one day in order to get new registration stickers, then they can let the insurance lapse. The police can only pull over so many people and must have just cause in order to do so.
The point is that there will never be 100% people insured because there are always risk takers in society. That is why everyone should get uninsured and under-insured motorist coverage.
