The stats on this comes as no surprise I imagine to anyone. Make you a bet that things would be worse if they took real world examples from down here in the south where we have an excess of trucks with lift kits…

I also wonder if they would performa test with a vehicle that has a grille guard against a vehicle that does not.

My vehicle, a standard F-250 SD was involved in a street parking crash. My vehicle was legally parked. The driver of the other car, a Mercedes, backed into the front of my vehicle. The damage to my vehicle was $750.00 to repaint the scratches in the grille guard, replace the grille insert and repaint and align the bumper, the damage to the Mercedes was over $7,000.

The impact cut the bumper cover, broke both taillamps, buckled the deck lid, rear body panel and did minor damage to both quarter panels. An exact speed could not be determined. Most of the damage to the Mercedes was caused by the grille guard doing what it is supposed to do, protect the radiator, a/c condenser and the turbo intercooler. I was able to drive away, the mercedes was towed as some type of computer in the car refused to let it start since the taillamps were not operable.

Oh, well, I will stick to my truck. At lest I know it will protect itself against the drivers of cars that are not paying any attention at how they park. I have watched the bumper parkers quite a bit since this incident, they back up until they bump the car behind, then pull forward, wiggling into the spot. I thought learning to park was mandatory in obtaining a driver’s license?

well, the other to look at is the folks that decided to customize their vehicles up or down. that will make a huge difference in connections. i have seen trucks that have a lift that makes them look like a monster truck and then there are cars sitting so low, wonder how they handle just a small bump in the road. you will never get a consensus to match.

And all along, I thought that bumpers disappeared years ago, kind of like the buggy whips!

Anyone who knows anything at all about vehicles recognized this problem from the first day the first SUV hit the road. It was an obvious problem, and had been a problem with some trucks for some time prior to the advent of SUVs. Another fiasco by the government, which regulates things like headlight height and hood ornaments, but gives no attention to important things like bumpers – which are supposed to minimzie light-tap damage. Who needed a study to know this?

There’s really no such thing as “minor” collisions anymore. I see too many small accidents with no physical damamge that turn into $10,000 PIP claims due to back & neck injuries.

Tobacco chewing good ole boys who alter the height of the body and bumpers should be charged more for their PD & Liability coverages just for this reason. I wouldn’t want to get broadsided by one of those hillbilly “raised” pickup trucks. The bumper would impact at “head” level in a normal passenger car. They should be outlawed. Some of these morons think of their trucks as an extension of their dorks. There is no need for such modification. (unless you live in the backwoods)

There was a “study” done at least 20-25 years ago that came to the same conclusion. Wonder who was paying for this “new” study?

is to fundamentally change how “we” make and buy our transportation choices. No one needs hundreds of variations of makes & models. How about, oh say maybe, six; I’ll have to get back to you on that.
A properly (Federally) regulated industry will provide efficiencies and stable employment here as it has all over the world! And remember; the world knows Global Warming is our fault.
By the way; you should see the uniforms we’re working on for everyone. You WILL love it!

Dugan, my truck is not an extension of my dork, my dork is an extenion of my truck. Drive like a fool and find the front crash bar and it will make love to you in so many ways you will see stars, birdies and cookoo clocks before it is over.

I put the crash bar on the front and the 15K steel bumper on the rear just for dorks like you that drive around in Prius’ with your nose stuck so high up in the air that you cannot see through thw windshield because of your lower protruding lip. It is also for those that cannot drive at all. I am also tired of paying for bumper repairs for those that like to bumper park.

So as long as you drive like you have some sense around me, don’t tailgate me, cut me off or pull out in front of me, then slam on the brakes, you will never meet either bumper. Otherwise, I plan to pry your *** either out of the grille or out of the tow bar if you screw up.
