Even though it’s tempting to “blame technology,” one would think that a carrier like Allstate would have a practices and standards team to monitor this process…

I know that OneBeacon uses this program for their bodily injury claim settlements. I am sure that there are others that use this program.

Allstate is getting off easy considering this “tool” has been around for decades. It’s a crutch for the inexperienced claim handler and a weapon for the experienced one. If I’m told that my claim is being evaluated by Colossus then it’s time to bend over. Shame on Allstate.

This program is widely used in the industry. Properly used as a guide it is one of many tools available for an adjuster. To allow it as a sole determination is to coin a phrase you are not in good hands. Accumulated xperience and not one year at aa time is the best approach here. With so many publicy traded companies trying to reduce staff costs what else remains to settle claims except a computer model. Shame. There is a reason as to why each company ranks where they do in the eye of the public and the agent that sells their product. May the best company be the last one standing. If you wouldn’t want to be a claimant of a company don’t promote their product.

Good points. Don’t blame the technology/use as a guideline. In todays “Now Generation and ME” atmosphere, the rush to feel good and be free leads many to take risky shortcuts. Companies and individuals.

Perhaps there were internal controls which produced the intended results of the payment amounts and the fine was a lower cost of doing business with this model. This is only my opinion. Check Googfe for Ten worst insurance companies.

You people have no clue!! so it’s ok for people to fake injuries and for attorneys to run up medical bills, but an insurer tries to reign things in and it’s not ok?? come on now!!

I have been a BI adjuster for more than 45 years. It is so stupid for anyone to use a program to settle an injury claim. Insurance Companies need to get off their butts, go in the field see the injured and settle their claims. With all the independents out there getting older and all these college kids sitting on their butts, things will never get done. HIT THE STREET…
