A manufacturer is recalling its H1N1 vaccine because of a lack of potency.
Len Lavenda, a spokesman for Sanofi Pasteur in Swiftwater, Pennsylvania, says the problem was discovered during routine testing after shipping. He says the recall will likely be nationwide, though it probably will not affect all 50 states.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health says the state received 11,360 doses and more than 72 providers are affected. Health officials say safety is not an issue.
Sanofi Pasteur and federal health officials say the small decrease in antigen content is unlikely to result in a significant reduction in immune response and revaccinations are not necessary.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a health update that the lots were shipped between November and January.
