We have no food safety system. As was evident with the peanut problem, companies take no responsibility for their products. They merely declare bankruptcy and resurface under a new name. The spinach contamination and the tainted pet food catastrophe should have brought about an awareness and, at the very least, an effort by FDA to make improvements. Unfortunately the FDA is operating on behalf of business, not the consumer of the food producers it is supposed to supervise.
