I’ve been trying to tell people that Obama is campaigning for the moment. Most Americans can’t think much further than their noses!
What puzzles me is how Obama can only be a few percentage points ahead of McCain when he’s had his wife,Willie Clinton,Hillary Chelsea and anybody else he can get to campaign for him.I thought he was the one running for president.I also think he bought Hillary Clinton.
Maybe she’s getting Willie back for the laundry stains?
I have argued left and right on this website about the corruption from within those institutes without divuldging them and now the cat is out of the bag and Obama was at the forefront supporting the operation the entire way.

I posted this earlier, but I thought it was more appropriate here:

    BAR STOOL ECONOMICS

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
    The fifth would pay $1.
    The sixth would pay $3.
    The seventh would pay $7.
    The eighth would pay $12.
    The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until on day, the owner threw them a curve. “Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20.”Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men – the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’ They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

    And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

“I only got a dollar out of the $20,”declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,” but he got $10!”

“Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!”

“That’s true!!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!”

“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison. “We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!”

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Yes but the theory behind your logic does not take into consideration that maybe the poorest do not want hand outs!Maybe they work just as hard and feel they deserve more than a handout!

You story was very entertaining. You are likely one of the wealthy to have enough time to think through an analogy of that calibur, beer drinking?

When it comes to this country although I am not for corporate bonuses being so huge! That’s what got us into this mess,GREED!It’s the same play out as the great depression when more government was created to regulate and oversee these wealthy individuals within the stock market and what happened it crashed even worse.
Nobody likes the government to tell them what to do with their money, and I am talking the private sector here!
    Insurance is not private sector.
We do however need to be sure that people like Senator Barney Frank do not get away with hiding scandals like we are seeing unfold right in front of our faces right now.
The Democrats are the reason for this entire mess because they voted to allow more lending to borrowers below prime rates which is high risk to say the least.
Now all the investment firms that bought that debt are turning to the tax payer to bail them out after they’ve taken their share of money. Is that right? Absolutely not! If the Dem’s had listened to the Rep’s this problem would never have occured.
If McCain is not elected into office and Obama is get ready for a depression that could take 20 years to get out of(never mind your bar stool economics.)

You’re missing the point here, Pud…the story is an analogy of the way our CURRENT system works, and is broken down into layman’s terms so Joe Average can understand it.

I heard it on a relatively prominent REPUBLICAN radio show (Michael Smerconish), and sadly can’t take the credit for writing it (and believe me, I’m F-A-R from wealthy).

Read it again: it’s actually AGAINST raising taxes.

I realize that.I was sticking my 2 cents worth in at the same time commenting on the write up you sent.
I really wish that everyone could have watched a 1 hr show last night on FBN.
It proved how bad it is to raise taxes and how bad it would be for the country if taxes are raised on the class that is being proposed by the Democrats
I just wish that people would open their eyes.
The people of this country are mad because jobs have been sent overseas and the leaders of those companies have pocketed billions while the average Joe is loosing everything they have.
I don;t feel bad for anyone that was has gotten themselves in debt too much because of either being mislead by lenders and/or realtors.
I would love to see the National Association of Realtors climb out from under their rock right now,the banks appraisers as well!
The taxes were raised on people as a double dip because of re-appraisal and plain mil rate increases.
This bailout is going to have to be re-paid by someone?

EXACTLY, Pud! that was the point of “Barstool Economics”! I honestly didn’t understand how our system works until it was broken down for me in a way that made more sense. Pass it along to anyone who thinks “It’s patriotic to pay more taxes!”

Actually you are wrong.I am certainly NOT an Obama supporter.
We are again faced with an election for the office of President of the United States and neither choice offers up anything that is an eye grabber to me.

Obama is a GREAT DANGER to our financial markets! In addition to this he has been associated with terrorists come and and blatantly lied to Americans and speaks generally on subjects that need specifics!

If you watched FBN they televised a series on the great depression. If BinObama IS elected I’m afraid that is the street this country is headed down.

You have me all wrong I am a conservative Republican all the way.

CUT SPENDING AND CUT GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS!

It’s the Democrats such as Barney Frank that have caused this entire mess with Fannie May and Freddie Mac.The Democrats knew full well that selling mortgages below prime for any extended period of time would be disasterous but they did nothing about it.
Former Treasurer Alan Greenspan warned of this whole mess befor ehe retired.I guess that’s why he retired? Why not go out when the going was good and leave the mess to Bernaki!

Personally, I’m grateful for Republicans like Pud, who show McCain/Palin supporters for what so many of them are….mean-spirited, vicious, deceitful, desperate, and racist. You guys just keep it up and watch more and more independent and moderate voters join the movement for REAL change.

you make a good point that there are other choices than Democrats and Republicans, but unfortunately, voting outside of the major parties seems like a wasted vote to me….I’d rather make my vote count by helping the better of the two viable candidates win. Why throw a vote away on a person or party who doesn’t have even a slight chance of winning? At least with the Presidential race, we have a significantly better choice in Obama rather than continue down the same tired path that has been followed for the last 8 years with McSame. In less important races, I might be willing to make a “protest” vote for an independent or 3rd party candidate…but this election is too important for that. I’m too uncomfortably reminded of Nader siphoning votes away from Gore, possibly giving the Presidency to ‘W’, and causing us to find ourselves in a protracted and unnecessary war in Iraq and a crippling deficit.

I’ve heard this argument before. “I don’t want to waste my vote.” If you are truly voting for who you think is the best candidate, how is that a wasted vote?
I don’t understand the mentality of I might as well vote for Mr./Ms. X because they are going to win anyways. Vote for who you want to win, not who you think will win. It’s this mentality that is allowing the few within the 2 major parties to continue the choke hold on the American voters.
Until we demand better through our votes and our voices, better will never come.

I yield my position on the soap box to the next armchair pundit.
