Scalia is an originalist when it comes to the Constitution. He tries to interpret everything like it’s 1784 (I forget the exact year it was written). That’s why he dissents so much, because most judges believe in a “living Constitution”, one that is interpreted by the mores of modern society.

Now the hispanics are playing the race card. The courts, in their infinite wisdom, have now protected blacks and hispanics. Since they are becoming the dominant races in America, I wonder if whites will ever be afforded equal protection? Although I can’t think of a single whiter person who ever screamed racism against another race.

    James,

Have you ever been discriminated against for being white? I have not. I don’t advocate playing the race card, but if someone is truly discriminated against for color/race/religion/sex/sexual orientation it should not be tolerated. This is 2008, right?

FYI, I am white and am not a liberal though I am sure some will call my comments liberal.

Hey Mark, racist slurs are proof of your superior intellect, as is your misspelling of barrel.

I guess the Yankees invaded America to ensure that people of every race, color, and creed could work for Cracker Barrel, eh? That was worth a half million lives, at least.

Isn’t it odd that no other nationality in the history of America played the race card except blacks (who invented it) and now Hispanics? Of all the Europeans who emmigrated to America have you ever heard of a single one crying racism? No. And that’s because they ASSIMILATED into their new country’s culture. They didn’t sit around and whine about why they aren’t treated with kid gloves. It’s time they stopped using racism as a convenient excuse for their inability to compete.

“It’s time they stopped using racism as a convenient excuse for their inability to compete.”

Whoa! It’s not that they can’t compete, it’s that they are too often taught that they don’t have to. It’s called l-i-b-e-r-a-l-i-s-m. Pick up a book by Thomas Sowell called, The Politics of Race.

Or maybe its that their grandparents were put in shackles and raped and had no possessions and were forced in to slave labor.

I bet that doesnt help you get ahead much in your new country either.

To Neocon – If that is the case then I am sure you would probably say that none of the Jewish decedents from the holocaust got ahead in this country either.

All I know is the whining has to stop – That which does not kill us only makes us stronger

It seems like the Asians have done a terrific job in the US after leaving their respective countries in Asia. Never heard them pull the race card and they thrive in America even after WWII. I think it boils down to will and determination. Why is it Scalia dissents on almost everything. I bet if he had his way, we would still have slaves and women would be barefoot, pregnant and no right to vote.
