Let me set you straight on the facts of the situation then may be you will have a different opinion. First, I believe in personal responsibility. This is why I did not order any of the 500 buses and other vehicles at my disposal in to service. I knew the poor couldn’t get out of town. Hell, most of them are so fat and dunb, they couldn’t get out of their own way. The point is, they are dependent on others. What better way to break that addiction than to let them run for their lives! I know about addiction after three nights in a row doing coke.
Where could I have taken them to where the cost would not bankrupt the city? Of course, a city asset or other property that could be filmed after it fell on the poor folks trying to stay alive; a place near higher structures where some could wade through the sweal to perch before the cameras of CNN and that latino cat from the other network. Then, when it’s all hitting the fan at once, I can blame the govenor who would only have to point upstream to the feds and the president. This is the best personal responsibility I could see for the folks of NO because I new that some would not make it, others would demand help and others would cry and cry for the cameras. Then everyone of those poor folk would understand that if they would not do it for themselves, they would be dead by the time anyone could get their act together. The ones who made it through are now tougher and smarter, I hope. My plan worked. I got others to do the job I was responsible for, I reduced the burden of the poor and elderly on the economy, and I was able to keep my butt out of jail (for criminal negligence in the way I did not handle my responsibilities), because the public looked to the president, like he had anything to do with it.
Let’s face it, it takes money to run this city. You could not imagine all the leeches, ticks and other parasites that suck this place dry. How else was I going to keep my ladies and the snow party going? I MEET MY RESPONSIBILITIES and I am glad to read the comments from all the intellects that goof of at work – my kind of people! What cities are you all the mayor of?

it will correct itself………….I love it! Kind of a natural selection process. I’d contribute to relocate all the mobile home parks closer to the beach to accelerate the process.

“After 50 years of Uncle Sam propping up the residents (many of them) of N.O….”

is that a fact or just your opinion after hearing so much about N.O. after Hurricane Katrina? I’m from Nebraska and gun to my head, i would say Florida is the state i associate most with hurricanes and hurricane recovery. so does that make me the better fact finder?

I think the frustration with NO getting subsidized for 50 years is rooted in all the federal aid that’s been provided to keep it from flooding because it’s below sea level, not just Katrina. One has to question the wisdom of trying to maintain a city that is below sea level. Sounds like waste of resources when they could be applied elsewhere to cities that have no chance of becoming part of the Gulf.

Ohioan – I appreciate your comment, but i guess, i don’t see the difference between building/developing in N.O. or along the atlantic coastline, especially in Florida. (don’t get me wrong, i’m not ignorant…i do understand the debate regarding N.O. but i think you could argue that point just about anywhere in the world, let alone the country).

The meanspiritedness of some people that post in here. I saw photos plenty of people suffering at the SuperDome, thin, fat, old, young, white, black, hispanic, stranded tourists etc. etc.

This has nothing to do with human suffering. It has everything to do with wasting money on city that has lost it’s lustre and has become a drain on the economy. It’s never had a corporate office of a major company, and has always been known for the French Quarter and Mardi Gras. Aside from being a place to party once a year, what is it’s claim to fame? Money doesn’t grow on trees and at some point, somebody has to ask the question “why are we doing this?”. I think they’d be hard pressed to find an answer. Did you watch the fine people of NO looting neighborhood businesses? Did hear the reports of sexual assaults that occured inside the SuperDome? What kind of city is this? They mayor and governor are incompetent and did nothing to mitigate the disaster. In other cities, like NYC, when a disaster strikes people help each other. Time to put a “Closed” sign on NO and develop another area. Maybe we can turn the whole state into a sportsmans paradise, relocate the people to Jackson, MS and build that town up. It at least has a future and won’t get blown off the map.

Ohioan, obviously you have never been to N.O. It has so much history and so beautiful and the people or friendly and caring. You must not judge on what you saw on TV.
