I hope this lawsuit will open up some Americans’ eyes. While I understand where patriot and compman are coming from…I’m tired of everyone blaming the immigrants. Odds are at one time your families were immigrants too, at one time, patriot and compman. They are just here trying to make a better lives for themselves (and i’m only speaking to the people who are here working hard and want to be here legally).

But when are we going to hold these businesses accountable for what they do? The exploitation of these workers is more ridiculous than someone coming here for a better life.

we all point the finger at people coming here for jobs, but NO ONE points a finger at these companies that hire them and pay them poorly and provide poor working conditions.

and besides, you are in insurance. you should know…even if someone is working illegaly, if a company hired them to work, they are still responsible for providing work comp.

I should have read your post before going off on my rant! You’re right, I believe this is for outside the US…although, it doesn’t really specify does it.

Wow Compman, can you believe that we share the same values and work ethic. The only difference in our way of thinking is that corporations/multinationals need to be held accountable. You don’t have to exploit people to make a buck. You can still make a buck and make even more when you treat workers well. I too have done jobs when I was growing up. I even helped my father out at his second job before I was 12 cleaning some office and a production plant. So you see we’re that so different after all.

Maybe I assumed too much, but I felt pretty sure the case was regarding workers outside the US when I read this paragraph:

“Plantation workers were allowed to ingest and bathe in contaminated water when they lived in company-supplied housing on Nicaraguan banana plantations, the lawsuit said.”

But you’re right, it wasn’t -that- specific up until then.

Government has to start being stricker on these companies. I read a report where this company near the border would hire illegal immigrants and then after 2 weeks when it was time to pay them, he would turn them in to the authorities, avoiding paying them. I am sure many do this! I am not for illegal immigrants, but this is not right either.

I agree 100%, the dishwasher, busboy, burger flippers are jobs the teenagers have to get a few bucks for college or as a starting point in their employment. They are not intended to produce a living wage for a family of 5. For the statisticians and the bleeding hearts to decry the wages is pure BS and they know it. Yet the press eats it up.

Got a passel of kids that you can’t support on a bagboy’s wages, here’s an idea, don’t have kids until you can support them. I also earned my way by doing the same jobs Compman did and waited until I could afford to pay for my children.

By the way Compman, after reading your post, have to let you know that my moniker Plymn does stand for Plymouth MN. You must have done well at the local Perkins as my parents kept going back there when they came for a visit.

Yeah, the Perkins Supreme was the best. Burger with bacon, cheese and their special barbecue sauce. Though, I have to say, watching the cooks, who were by the way, my high school buddies, I don’t think I would have eaten there as an adult!. Did you go to HS out there?

Mary B (and I know what that stands for)…I have read your posts on many cases. I was wondering if you could please provide me one example of a situation where someone does have the right to sue. Just one would be nice.

Ad, Patriot, Compman…thanks for the obligatory racist comments. Oh, and if you think George Bush / Karl Rove don’t want illegals in this country working for nothing, you might want to move your head 6 to 8 inches straight down so it’s out of your *** and you can observe what actually happens on this planet.

Hey Jeff. You and Rosie have a lot in common. Maybe you two could hook up and have babies together. I am sure Stephen King would like some new material on your “creations.”
