Socialized homeowners insurance is already available in Florida through Citizens–courtesy of a Republican administration. In many cases, it\’s a situation where people of modest means are subsidizing insurance for more expensive houses.

Both candidates for governor in Florida are using the same type of rhetoric. It\’s not a Republican/Democrat thing, it\’s a bunch of people wanting to live near the beach and not pay the price issue.

How about a FBI / Congressional investigation into how many hurricane Katrina / Rita victims were denied, or presented with false damage assessments/ false indemnification factors on roofing systems damage alone by insurers, and said victims were subsequently forced to look to the FEMA / SBA, in South East Texas.

How about looking into false and misleading reconstruction procedures and cost estimating odologies that Allstate, State Farm and other insurers have (colluded?) to continue to promote for the last 5 years.

Please feel free to contact me for documentation that would help with such research efforts.

    Several points:

    1) The insurance companies themselves started down this road when in the late 60\’s they refused to offer or cover flood damages anymore.

    2) Slowly but surely they are doing the same thing with Wind/hail coverages in coastal areas. Its not that they wont charge a premium… MOST wont even write a policy anymore. If the Insurance companies themselves wont write the coverages what is left but some sort of national cat policy.

    3) As it is ….many ( not all ) companies in many states are cherry picking only the areas of a state they deem to be profitable.

    4) As for the policy that people shouldnt live in cat prone areas… that is just folly…..few if any areas of this country are subject to some sort of catastrophe. Flood, Hurricanes, wild fires, tornadoes etc……each area has its own inherit risk and should be evaluated as such, However, if the insurance companies themselves are unwilling to write coverage what else is to be done…….
